How this calculator works

Recommended pressure follows a transparent, site-owned "tire-drop" heuristic: pressure rises with the estimated load each wheel carries and falls as the tire gets wider, with reductions for rough surfaces and tubeless setups.

  • Inputs & units: system weight (kg or lb), tire width (mm), surface, tubeless (yes/no), optional sidewall max (psi).
  • Weight split: the rear wheel carries more load than the front, so it gets a slightly higher pressure.
  • Limits: results are clamped to a planning range and never exceed your entered sidewall maximum. Your tire and rim limits still take priority. Output is shown in both psi and bar.
  • Assumptions & limitations: this model is not validated for every tire-and-rim combination and does not use measured tire width, casing, inner rim width, rim type, or wet conditions. Those details can materially change an equipment-specific recommendation.

What tire pressure should I run on my road bike?

Use total system weight, actual tire and rim dimensions, casing, surface, conditions, and manufacturer limits to choose a starting point. This calculator provides a heuristic estimate; an equipment-specific manufacturer tool may use more of those inputs.

Should front and rear tire pressure be the same?

Not necessarily. Wheel load can differ, so many pressure tools produce separate front and rear starting values. Actual distribution depends on the bike, position, luggage, and riding conditions.

Does tubeless let me run lower pressure?

A tubeless setup removes the inner tube that can be pinched, but the appropriate pressure still depends on compatible tire and rim limits, retention, casing, width, load, and surface. Do not apply a universal pressure reduction to every setup.

Is this calculator a substitute for the sidewall rating?
